What Is a Ring Size?

วิธีการเลือกเพชร
หลายท่านอาจจะเคยเลือกซื้อเพชรโดยคำนึงถึงเพียงขนาดและน้ำของเพชร
แต่ที่จริงแล้วหลักการเลือกเพชรที่ถูกต้อง จะต้องคำนึงถึงหลัก 4Cs ทางเอสไดมอนด์มีวิธีในการเลือกเพชร โดยใช้หลัก 4Cs ดังนี้
1.Cutting : Triple Excellent Cut
เพชรที่มีอยู่ในโลกสามารถเจียระไนได้หลายรูปทรง ซึ่งจะส่งผลต่อรูปร่างลักษณะความใหญ่ของหน้าเพชร สำหรับใครที่กำลังมองหาเพชรกลม S.Diamond ขอแนะนำให้ เลือกเพชรที่มี Excellent Cutting หรือเหลี่ยมการเจียระไนที่ดีที่สุด เนื่องจาก Cutting เป็นปัจจัยสำคัญที่ส่งผลต่อประกายของเพชรแต่ละเม็ด การเลือกเพชรที่มี Excellent Cutting ทำให้เครื่องประดับที่สวมใส่มีความเงางามกว่า Cutting ในระดับรองลงมา
Hearts and Arrows
แพตเทิร์นเพชรแบบ Hearts and Arrows นั้นได้รับการค้นพบครั้งแรกด้วยกล้องแบบ Firescope แบบโบราณที่ประดิษฐ์โดย Dr.Kazumi Okuda ในช่วงปี ค.ศ. 1970
กระบวนการทำงานของ Firescope จะใช้การสะท้อนแสง เพื่อให้สามารถแสดงทิศทาง และความเข้มข้นของแสงที่เปล่งออกมาจากเพชรได้ ซึ่งแพตเทิร์นสีสันต่างๆ ที่เราเห็นจะทำให้เราสามารถวิเคราะห์ได้ ว่าแสงที่ออกมานั้นมีมุมหรือองศาแม่นยำแค่ไหน ทั้งหมดนี้ก็เพื่อตรวจสอบความสมมาตรของเพชรนั่นเอง
● สีแดง หมายถึง ส่วนที่ตาคุณมองเห็นได้ว่ามีความสว่างมากที่สุด
● สีชมพู หมายถึง ส่วนที่มีความสว่างรองลงมา
● สีดำ หมายถึง ส่วนที่เป็นมุมมืดของเพชร (Dark Flash) ซึ่งก็คือประกายไฟระยิบระยับ (Scintillation) ที่คุณจะมองเห็นเมื่อขยับเพชรไปมา
● สีขาว หมายถึง ส่วนที่แสงวิ่งผ่านเพชร โดยไปสิ้นสุดตรงก้นเพชร
เพชร S.DIAMOND ทุกเม็ดผ่านการตรวจคัดเลือกด้วยเครื่องตรวจการกระจายแสง Sarin ซึ่งเป็นเครื่องมือวัดค่าการกระจายแสงของเพชร จาก S.DIAMOND LAB เพื่อให้ได้เพชรที่ส่องประกายแวววาวที่สุด
2. Color, สีเพชร D-J
ในธรรมชาติสีเพชรมีได้หลายสี คนไทยส่วนใหญ่จะเรียกสีเพชรว่า “น้ำ” เพชรสีขาวเอง ถือว่าได้รับความนิยมมากที่สุด เพชรสีขาวแบ่งระดับสีได้หลายระดับไล่ตามตัวอักษรตั้งแต่ D (น้ำ 100, ขาวสุด) ไปจนถึง Z ซึ่งจะเป็นเพชรสีเหลืองนวล หลายท่านมักจะเข้าใจผิด ว่าการเลือกเพชรที่ดีต้องน้ำ 100 เท่านั้น แต่นอกจากสีเพชรแล้ว ยังต้องดูปัจจัยอื่นประกอบในการเลือกเพชรด้วยเช่น การเจียระไน ดังที่ได้กล่าวมาในข้างต้นแล้ว การพิจารณาเรื่องสีควรพิจารณาในสภาพแวดล้อมหลายๆ แบบด้วย เช่น ดูกับแสงไฟตั้งโต๊ะ หรือดูกับแสงอาทิตย์ เพราะปัจจัยภายนอก ก็มีผลกับการมองเห็นสีของเพชรเช่นเดียวกัน
3. Carat, กะรัต คือ น้ำหนักของเพชร
อีกหนึ่งปัจจัยที่ต้องพิจารณาใน อีกหนึ่งปัจจัยที่ต้องพิจารณาในการเลือกเพชรคือ น้ำหนักเพชร การบอกน้ำหนักเพชรในระบบสากลจะบอกด้วยหน่วยกะรัต เพชรน้ำหนัก 1 กะรัต เท่ากับ 0.2 กรัม ราคาเพชรในแต่ละขนาดกำหนดโดยราคาต่อกะรัต การเลือกเพชรที่มีขนาดใหญ่ น้ำหนักมาก ยิ่งหาได้ยาก จะมีมูลค่าสูง การเลือกเพชรที่มีขนาดใหญ่กว่าจึงมีราคาต่อกะรัตที่สูงกว่า การเลือกเพชรที่มีขนาดเล็กกว่า น้ำหนักน้อย จะหาได้ง่ายกว่า และมีค่าใช้จ่ายที่ต่ำกว่า
4. Clarity, ความสะอาดเพชร
Clarity หรือระดับความบริสุทธิ์ หรือความสะอาดของเพชร เป็นปัจจัยที่สำคัญอันดับต้นๆ ในการเลือกเพชร โดยปกติเพชรจะมีตำหนิตามธรรมชาติ เพชรที่มีความบริสุทธิ์จึงหาได้ยากกว่า และมีมูลค่าสูงกว่าเพชรที่มีความบริสุทธิ์น้อยกว่า
การเลือกเพชรโดยพิจารณาความสะอาดของเพชรเป็นปัจจัยหนึ่งที่ไม่ควรละเลย เพราะความสะอาดของเพชร จะส่งผลต่อประกาย และความสวยงามของเพชร
ระดับความสะอาดของเพชรแบ่งได้เป็น 10 ระดับ ตามปัจจัยต่างๆ โดย เริ่มต้นจาก IF หรือระดับสะอาด โดยปกติระดับความสะอาดที่แนะนำในการเลือกเพชรจะเริ่มตั้งแต่ IF-VS1
การเรืองแสง (Fluorescence)
การเรืองแสง (Fluorescence) คือการที่เพชรแสดงการเรืองแสง ในขณะที่ฉายด้วยแสงอัลตราไวโอเลต (UV) โดยเกิดจากการที่เพชรดูดกลืนพลังงานของรังสี UV ไว้โดยอิออนที่เป็นตัวกระตุ้น (Activator)
ระดับของการเรืองแสง ก็คือความเข้มของการเรืองแสงนั่นเอง ซึ่งหลายๆ ท่านอาจจะเคยเห็นมาบ้างในใบเซอร์จากสถาบันตรวจสอบอัญมณี โดยเพชรที่แสดงการเรืองแสงนั้น บางคนอาจเรียกว่า “เพชรติดฟลู”
สถาบัน GIA ได้แบ่งระดับของการเรืองแสงออกเป็น 5 ระดับ ไว้เป็นมาตรฐานดังนี้
None : เพชรไม่มีปฏิกิริยาของการเรืองแสงเลย
Faint : เรืองแสงเล็กน้อย เป็นสีฟ้าอ่อนๆ ยังไม่ส่งผลต่อความใสของเพชร
Medium : เรืองแสงปานกลาง เพชรจะมีความขาวขึ้นเล็กน้อย แต่ยังมีความใสของเพชรอยู่
Strong : เรืองแสงอย่างชัดเจน เห็นเป็นสีฟ้าเข้ม สังเกตเห็นเพชรเริ่มเป็นฝ้า และมี Milky เพิ่มขึ้น
Very Strong : เรืองแสงชัดเจนมาก เป็นสีฟ้าเข้มเปล่งปลั่ง เพชรมีความเบลอ เป็นฝ้า Milky ชัดเจน
จากที่กล่าวมาข้างต้น การเลือกเพชรที่ดีควรที่จะคำนึงถึงปัจจัยหลายๆ อย่างร่วมกัน
